Farmers Insurance Open Fantasy Golf Picks

Welcome to this years first edition of MyBestBet.net fantasy golf draft. This year's tournament, the Farmers Insurance Open, will be played same as every year, on the North and South courses at Torrey Pines.

In terms of the course: The North course at Torrey Pines is only played once by players and after the 36 hole cut, only the South course is played for the remainder of the tournament. With the North course being only 6,874 yards, it will be a great opportunity to score low and capitalize on the four par 5's, one of which being sub 500 yards on 18. That being said, the South course will be the distinction between the goods and the greats, especially at 7,569 yards, so my analysis will be using course stats from there.

With that, lets get into who will be atop the leaderboard come Sunday:

Brandt Snedeker - I like Brandt here not only because of his hot streak, but because if you don't have him come Sunday and he sits where he usually has been past couple of weeks, you're guaranteed losing every draft tournament you are in. The most important stat to take into account for him is his putting. Ranked 1st in strokes gained putting back in 2012, he found himself losing his stroke only to regain it back as of recent. With this course ranking #1 in puts from 6ft last year and continuously ranking in the top 5 in putts from 6 to 8 ft, players will need to be holing in major putts to have a shot at scoring low, an incredibly hard feat at Torrey Pines. Almost up there with Chambers Bay in terms of how hard these greens are at both courses, look for Sneads to scoop up a top 15 finish at the very least if he really puts it all back together. Keep in mind he missed a couple of clutch puts coming down the stretch in his loss to Fabian Gomez at the Sony Open, so he'll really be doing his best to not repeat such mistakes.

Si Woo Kim - Another guy who performed well at the Sony Open. He finished with a solo 4th in that tournament as well as a T9 in last week's CareerBuilder Challenge. He's running hot and unless something out of the ordinary happens to him, he should stay consistent and finish easily in the top 15 as well. Keep in mind this statistic: the South course leads the way in rough performance, ranking 1st/2nd two years in a row with right/left rough shots from 150-175 yards respectively. Who leads the field right now in scoring from that distance in rough with over 7 shots made from there? You guessed it: Si Woo. His familiarity with the position as well as his good performance from the stance should work to his favor.

Marc Leishman - He doesn't really have much of stats to back up solid play here at Torrey Pines other than second place finishes in 2010 and 2014. He's familiar with this course and has usually been a great competitor on familiar turf (just look at his Masters performances). Also a supremely long driver of the ball averaging a little over 309 yards which should help, his approaches tend to be shorter than tour average, giving himself an advantage to score low being ranked second in proximity of approaches from 100-125 yards. His eye fits this course well being a primarily right rough striker and being 3 under par in 10 attempts from over 200 yards, Also he is 10 under par hitting from the fairway in close to 60 attempts, so having a 63.81% driving accuracy percentage helps tremendously. Watch him go low and possibly put up his best performance of the season, especially after his marring cut last week. Players who get cut after performing well prior tend to outperform even their past performances. This is the comeback psyche of golf.

Andrew Loupe - After an impressive performance last week in CareerBuilder, Loupe looks to stack his next outing and is my value play of this week. He was great during his web.com tour stint finishing with a win in late September so he's not too far removed from the feeling of taking home a victory. He will be a very popular fly pick so roster him especially in head to head games.

With these 4 picks in the bag, there should be no way you don't finish in the top 25% of your brackets and games. Try your luck with MyBestBet.net's trusted picks and hit me back with either a comment or paypal me (if you get really lucky) off anything you see here. Thank you and good luck!

WGC-HSBC Champions Update

So my first lineup I entered into multiple small tournaments and one slightly larger buy-in which isn't turning out so hot. But the next two lineups with Kevin Kisner are absolutely killing it. Hopefully if Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, and Daniel Summerhays can pull off some solid rounds in the final day I can work my way up to top dollar in my golf DFS. I don't expect Kevin Na to be doing anything but putting up extra garbage points for me to laugh at.
